The Tata Rs 1-lakh car is here! And it's called the Nano!

Tata Group chairman Ratan Tata on Thursday unveiled the Tata Nano at the 9^th Auto Expo in New Delhi.

Details of the People's Car:

Ratan Tata, while unveiling the Nano, said: "The car will meet all current safety norms and all emission criteria. The pollution it will cause will be lower than 2-wheelers."

The car, he said, is smaller than a Maruti 800, but has 21 per cent more volume or space inside than the 800. He said that the dealer price of the car will be Rs 1 lakh, plus value-added tax (VAT) plus transport charges.

The car will have a 624-cc petrol engine generating 33 bhp of power. It will sport a 30-litre fuel tank and 4-speed manual gearshift. One of Nano's three versions will come with air conditioning, but will have no power steering. It will have front disk and rear drum brakes. The company claims mileage of 23 km per litre.

The car's dashboard features just a speedometer, fuel gauge, and oil light. The car does not have reclining seats or radio. The shock absorbers are basic.

Nano, the world's cheapest car, costs almost half of the cheapest car currently available anywhere in the world.

''Since, a promise is a promise the standard dealer version will cost Rs 1 lakh,'' said Tata Sons chairman Ratan Tata.

He informed that the car is 8 per cent smaller bumper to bumper, than the Maruti800 but at the same time 21 per cent larger in its interiors and can sit up to four people. Go to next slide for more. . .

Dispelling myths that the car was not safe enough Tata said, 'The car has passed the full-frontal crash and the side impact crash''. He also side stepped emission concerns and said the car will meet Euro IV norms.

While critics had been sceptical throughout about the car meeting safety and emission norms, coming as it is at that price, Tata said he was happy to announce that Nano meets all norms as would a modern car.

The car is 8 per cent shorter than Maruti 800 on bumper to bumper length, but is 21 per cent more spacious, claimed Tata.

Alluding to fears expressed by environmentalist R K Pachauri and green activist Sunita Narain that the car at that price would add more vehicles on the road leading to higher vehicular pollution, Tata said the 624 cc, 33 HP petrol engine meets Bharat Stage-III emission norms and can also meet the Euro 4 norms.

"Pachauri will not have a nightmare and Sunita Narain can also sleep," he quipped, while recalling that some people had suggested that the car should be called 'Pachauri' and some others said that it should be named 'Mamta' ? probably referring to the position TMC leader Mamta Banerjee had taken against the setting up of the small-car project at Singur in West Bengal.

Commenting on the safety standard, he said the car has gone through a full frontal crash test as per norms.

The Nano will come in three variants -- standard and two deluxe models with AC. The standard car would be available for Rs 1 lakh (ex-showroom), while VAT and transportation costs are extra.

The Nano is expected to be commerically launched in the second half of 2008. News reports say that Tata Motors hopes to sell 500,000 units of the car, almost four times the number of Indicas it sells. Tata plans to focus on a market segment hitherto untapped.

Not since the launch of the Maruti 800 in 1983 has any car gripped the imagination of a nation and indeed car manufacturers the world over so intensely. If commercially successful, the Tata Nano can alter the passenger car market in India, and perhaps the world, beyond description.

Office spies are everywhere -- even online -- so it's best to be careful with your Internet activities at work.

Organisations are getting very peculiar about their employees' efficiency. So if you're rejoicing about the fact that you've got free Internet access at the office and are thinking of catching up with your friends on Orkut or Facebook, think twice. There might be spy software installed on the network and screenshots from your computer could well be reaching your boss every 10 minutes.

Varun Lamba*, working with an MNC in Bangalore says, "I hardly get any time to catch up with old pals as my company has blocked all social networking sites like Orkut and Facebook." He's a bit upset about not being able to connect with friends, but is also glad that his efficiency has improved because more time is available for work.

A Japanese company's resource centre in Pune has been successful in enhancing the productivity of its trainees by regularly giving them feedback on their Internet usage in their first month on the job. The company uses softwares like 'Sonic Wall' to monitor the usage and instant feedback is given to employees who get caught surfing a bit too much. After two such warnings, serious action is taken by the company.

Ria Ghosh*, who worked as a software engineer with a leading MNC was fired following two warnings from the management regarding her chat records, which were scanned for use of offensive language. She feels, "Had I paid heed to those warnings, I wouldn't have ended up unemployed". A strong indication regarding the consequences of such actions should be given by a company to all its employees to avoid such cases.

Another IT services provider in Noida has blocked pornographic and social networking sites. However, there are other ways to access these blocked webpages -- for instance, you can access Orkut etc via www.meebo.com and www.kproxy.com, even if Orkut is blocked by your company. However, if these sites are also blocked, there is no other way left to access the websites in question.

Big Brother could be watching you in any of the following ways:

~ By installing software like 'Sonic Wall', 'Guardian Monitor' etc that help block/ monitor web usage.
~ By using tracking software and cookies. For example, emails sent and received can be tracked, including chat conversations, keystrokes and websites visited.
~ By tracking application usage. For example, 'Yahoo Tracker' is an add-on for Yahoo Messenger, which tracks the online-offline activities of users in the last 24 hours.
~ By installing spy software that can send screen shots of your computer to another computer every 10 minutes and can record chats, words in emails and website URLs.

The drawbacks

No doubt these measures help companies earn more productive hours and maintain ethics among employees, besides controlling spread of malicious programmes and viruses. However, there is a dark side to all of this:

~ Complete alienation from chatting or social networking while spending more than 10 hours a day in the office impacts employee morale. There is no chance left to maintain a balance between their work and personal lives.
~ Due to misuse by some employees, other innocent employees get indirectly penalised.
~ If there is any such policy in place, organisations should ensure that all their employees are made aware of it. Prevention is always better than cure. In case you get caught red-handed, the effects could range from nothing to your tenure being instantly terminated -- it all depends upon organisational policies.

Internet threats: Phishing, pharming and porn

Avoid being a victim:

~ Never send any email or message from the office that contains vulgar or abusive language.
~ Plan your work so that you don't indulge in too much chatting or 'net surfing.
~ Read all the company policies carefully when you join and ask the network/ system administration team if you have any doubts regarding Internet use.
~ Take permission before downloading and installing any stand-alone application from a website.

Some key considerations for companies:

~ Maintain a balance between security and privacy; any such evidence can be used against the company for legal purposes.
~ Clearly state company policy to your employees.
~ Give regular feedback to employees regarding Internet usage or access to prohibited websites.

An Indonesian fisherman who feared that he would be killed by tree-like
growths covering his body has been given hope of recovery by an American
doctor - and Vitamin A.

Dede, now 35, baffled medical experts when warty "roots" began growing
out of his arms and feet after he cut his knee in a teenage accident.

The welts spread across his body unchecked and soon he was left unable
to carry out everyday household tasks.

Sacked from his job and deserted by his wife, Dede has been raising his
two children - now in their late teens - in poverty, resigned to the
fact that local doctors had no cure for his condition.

To make ends meet he even joined a local "freak show", parading in front
of a paying audience alongside victims of other peculiar diseases.

Although supported by his extended family, he was often a target of
abuse and ridicule in his rural fishing village.

But now an American dermatology expert who flew out to Dede's home
village south of the capital Jakarta claims to have identified his
condition, and proposed a treatment that could transform his life.

After testing samples of the lesions and Dede's blood, Dr Anthony
Gaspari of the University of Maryland concluded that his affliction is
caused by the Human Papilloma Virus (HPV), a fairly common infection
that usually causes small warts to develop on sufferers.

Dede's problem is that he has a rare genetic fault that impedes his
immune system, meaning his body is unable to contain the warts.

The virus was therefore able to "hijack the cellular machinery of his
skin cells", ordering them to produce massive amounts of the substance
that caused the tree-like growths known as "cutaneous horns" on his
hands and feet.

Dede's counts of a key type of white blood cell are so low that Dr
Gaspari initially suspected he may have the Aids virus.

But tests showed he did not, and it became clear that Dede's immune
condition was something far rarer and more mysterious.

Warts aside, he had enjoyed remarkable good health throughout his life -
which would not be expected of someone with a suppressed immune system -
and neither his parents nor his siblings have shown signs of developing
lesions.

"The likelihood of having his deficiency is less than one in a million,"
Dr Gaspari told the Telegraph.

Dr Gaspari, who became involved in the case through a Discovery Channel
documentary, believes that Dede's condition can be largely cleared up by
a daily doses of a synthetic form of Vitamin A, which has been shown to
arrest the growth of warts in severe cases of HPV.

"He won't have a perfectly normal body but the warts should reduce in
size to the point where he could use his hands," Dr Gaspari said.

"Over the course of three to six months the warts should be come smaller
and fewer in number. He will be living a more normal life."

The most resilient warts could then be frozen off and the growths on his
hands and feet surgically removed.

Dr Gaspari hopes to get the necessary drugs free of charge from
pharmaceutical firms. They would then be administered by Indonesian
doctors under his supervision.

Still intrigued by the origins of Dede's peculiar immune condition, the
doctor would like to fly him to the United States for further
examination, but fears the financial and bureaucratic barriers would
prove too difficult to overcome.

"I would like to bring him to the US to run tests on where his immune
condition has come from, but I would need funding and to get him a visa
as well as someone to cover the costs of the tests," he said.

"I've never seen anything like this in my entire career."

1. After connecting to internet we planned to open e-mail account and
whenever we fill the form in Hotmail in the password column, only
****** appears, but in the rest of the fields whatever we typed appears, but
we face this problem only in password field. We checked with hardware
vendor Santa Singh and he said that there is no problem in keyboard.
Because of this we open the e-mail account with password *****. I
request you to check this as we ourselves do not know what the password is.

2. We are unable to enter anything after we click the 'shut down '
button.

3. There is a button 'start' but there is no "stop" button. We request
you to check this.

4. We find there is 'Run' in the menu. One of my friend clicked 'run '
has ran upto Amritsar! So, we request you to change that to "sit", so that
we can click that by sitting.

5. One doubt is that any 're-scooter' available in system? As I find
only 're-cycle', but I own a scooter at my home.

6. There is 'Find' button but it is not working properly. My wife lost
the door key and we tried a lot for tracing the key with this ' find', but
unable to trace. Is it a bug??

7. Every night I am not sleeping as I have to protect my 'mouse' from
CAT, So I suggest u to provide one DOG to kill that cat.

8. Please confirm when u are going to give me money for winning
'HEARTS' (playing cards in games) and when are u coming to my home to collect ur
money.

1.Goddess Lakshmi's Birthday: The Goddess of wealth, Lakshmi incarnated on the new moon day (amaavasyaa) of the Kartik month during the churning of the ocean (samudra-manthan), hence the association of Diwali with Lakshmi.

2. Vishnu Rescued Lakshmi: On this very day (Diwali day), Lord Vishnu in his fifth incarnation as Vaman-avtaara rescued Lakshmi from the prison of King Bali and this is another reason of worshipping Ma Larkshmi on Diwali.

3. Krishna Killed Narakaasur: On the day preceding Diwali, Lord Krishna killed the demon king Narakaasur and rescued 16,000 women from his captivity. The celebration of this freedom went on for two days including the Diwali day as a victory festival.

4. The Return of the Pandavas: According to the great epic 'Mahabharata', it was 'Kartik Amavashya' when the Pandavas appeared from their 12 years of banishment as a result of their defeat in the hands of the Kauravas at the game of dice (gambling). The subjects who loved the Pandavas celebrated the day by lighting the earthen lamps.

5. The Victory of Rama: According to the epic 'Ramayana', it was the new moon day of Kartik when Lord Ram, Ma Sita and Lakshman returned to Ayodhya after vanquishing Ravana and conquering Lanka. The citizens of Ayodhya decorated the entire city with the earthen lamps and illuminated it like never before.

6. Coronation of Vikramaditya: One of the greatest Hindu King Vikramaditya was coroneted on the Diwali day, hence Diwali became a historical event as well.

7. Special Day for the Arya Samaj: It was the new moon day of Kartik (Diwali day) when Maharshi Dayananda, one of the greatest reformers of Hinduism and the founder of Arya Samaj attained his nirvana.

8. Special Day for the Jains: Mahavir Tirthankar, considered to be the founder of modern Jainism also attained his nirvana on Diwali day.

9. Special Day for the Sikhs: The third Sikh Guru Amar Das institutionalized Diwali as a Red-Letter Day when all Sikhs would gather to receive the Gurus blessings. In 1577, the foundation stone of the Golden Temple at Amritsar was laid on Diwali. In 1619, the sixth Sikh Guru Hargobind, who was held by the Mughal Emperor Jahengir, was released from the Gwalior fort along with 52 kings.

10. The Pope's Diwali Speech: In 1999, Pope John Paul II performed a special Eucharist in an Indian church where the altar was decorated with Diwali lamps, the Pope had a 'tilak' marked on his forehead and his speech was bristled with references to the festival of light.

Hyundai i10 Driven

Got a chance to TD the i10 Magna longer. Here are my observations.

Exteriors

Gone are the tallboy proportions, well atleast somewhat. The i10 looks
smarter, lower and wider than the santro. The side profile would still
remind you of the santro. But overall, the design is much better
proportioned and pleasant to look at unlike the quirky design of the
santro that first came out.

Interiors

Sit in the i10 and the interiors feel bigger than they are mostly due
to lighter colours being used. The beige interiors look and feel good.
They are built well and there is also space for a double-din stereo.
The vertically positioned vents have a somewhat limited movement, but
the AC chills and is one of the better units on the market. The
quality of materials used is good and feel better than the
competition. The front seats are comfortable but lack a little in
underthigh support, could be an issue over longer drives. They also
don't come with adjustable headrests which I feel is something that
should not have been left out. They don't come with height adjustment
either. The steering however, has adjustment for rake (tilt). The
instrument cluster is nicely laid out and the outline of the pod is
similar to that of the santro.

The boot space has seen a slight improvement over the santro. But the
only way to open the boot is from the outside. It opens by lifting the
Hyundai logo, just like in the Passat. Hyundai has skipped the
internal boot release. Bad hyundai.

The sunroof is a nice feature, it is supplied by webasto, but the
finish could have been better. Although not of much use in our
weather, but its still something nice to have and even better when
most cars from even higher segments don't offer it.

Engine & Gearbox:

The 1.1 litre unit puts out 66bhp which is slightly more than the one
on the santro. The refinement levels are impressive. Just like the
Santro, the i10 pulls cleanly from lower rpms. The initial push really
helps in traffic. but don't expect it to be a rocket. Its good enough
to keep up with traffic.

The central mounted gearbox falls easily to hand. The shift quality is
good but has longer throws than that of the Santro. I liked the short
throws of the santro better. Also the gearknob could have been
finished better.

Ride & Handling:

The ride is not as stiff as the santro and the top heaviness is also
mostly taken care of. The i10 now features an electronic power
steering. It feels nice and light at city speeds. Haven't been on the
highway so can't comment on highway stability.

The variant I drove came with 14 inch wheels and the ride does feel
slightly harsh especially at low speeds.

Overall, it is a worthy successor to the santro. The sparks, Wagon R's
and Estilos better watch out. The i10 looks like a winner.

As we all know Newton went content of wat he has done and things were

ideal till god decided to send him back to celeberate diwali in India
.

All went fine till Newton 's visit to kollywood's Rajnikant film
festival. Seeing his laws of Physics battered, Newton went paranoid.

Reports say as per the movie:

Rajanikanth has a Brain Tumor that, according to the doctors can't be
cured and his death is imminent. In one of the fights, our great
Rajanikanth is shot in the head. To everybody's surprise, the bullet
passes through his ears taking away the tumor along with it and he is
cured!

Crowd goes…..Long Live Rajanikanth!

B4 Newton could gather himself.

Rajanikanth is confronted with 3 gangsters. Rajanikanth has a gun but
unfortunately only one bullet and a knife. Guess what he does? He
throws the knife at the middle gangster & shoots the bullet towards
the knife. The knife cuts the bullet into 2 pieces, which kills both
the gangsters on each side of the middle gangster & unsurprisingly the
knife takes care of the middle one.

Newton is still studing the viability of the angles used by Rajnikantam when

A gangster chases Rajanikanth. Rajanikanth has a revolver but no
bullets in it. Guess what he does? Nah. He waits for the gangster to
shoot. As soon as the gangster shoots, Rajanikanth opens the bullet
compartment of his revolver and catches the bullet. Then, he closes
the bullet compartment and fires his gun. And bang, the gangster is
dead!

Now this was too much for our Newton to take and he is on his feet!
But the conspiracy is not over yet.

The 'climax' finally arrives. Rajanikanth gets to know that the
villain is on the other side of a very high wall. So high that
Rajanikanth can't jump even if he tries like one of those superman
techniques that our heroes normally use. Rajanikanth has to
desperately kill the villain because it's the climax. (Newton dada is
smiling since it is virtually impossible, right?) Rajanikanth suddenly
pulls two guns from his pockets. He throws one gun in the air and when
the gun has reached above the height of the wall, he uses the second
gun and shoots at the trigger of the first gun in air. The first gun
fires off and the villain is dead and so is NEWTON.

And Diwali is yet to arrive.

A very good message.(Think and Act)...read the last one atleast.........its big......but give meaning to ur time.........

Different people have different perception. One man's meat could be another man's poison. A couple bought a donkey from the market. On the way home, a boy commented, "Very stupid. Later, an old man saw it and commented, "The husband is the head of family. How can the wife ride on the donkey while the husband is on foot?" Further on the way home, they met an old Lady. She commented, "How can the man ride on the donkey but let the wife walk. He is no gentleman."
The husband thus quickly asked the wife to join him on the donkey. Then, they met a young man. He commented, "Poor donkey, how can you hold up the weight of two persons. They are cruel to you." Hearing that, the husband and wife immediately climbed down from the donkey and carried it on their shoulders.

It seems to be the only choice left. Later, on a nar row bridge, the donkey was frightened and struggled. They lost their balance and fell into the river. You can never have everyone praise you, nor will everyone condemn you. Never in the past, not at present, and never will be in the future.

Thus, do not be too bothered by others words if our conscience is clear..

BE PATIENT

This is a true story which happened in the States. A man came out of his home to admire his new truck. To his puzzlement, his three-year-old son was happily hammering dents into the shiny paint of the truck. The man ran to his son, knocked him away, hammered the little boy's hands into pulp as punishment. When the father calmed down, he rushed his son to the hospital.

Although the doctor tried desperately to save the crushed bones, he finally had to amputate the fingers from both the boy's hands. When the boy woke up from the surgery & saw his bandaged stubs, he innocently said, "Daddy, I'm sorry about your truck." Then he asked, "but when are my fingers going to grow back?" The father went home & committed suicide.

Think about this story the next time someone steps on your feet or u wish to take revenge. Think first before u lose your patience with someone u love. Trucks can be repaired.. Broken bones & hurt feelings often can't. Too often we fail to recognize the difference between the person and the performance. We forget that forgiveness is greater than revenge.

People make mistakes. We are allowed to make mistakes. But the actions we take while in a rage will haunt us forever.

They Would Make Duplicates Of Credit Cards Used By Customers At A Juhu Hotel

Mumbai: The next time you decide to use your credit card on a shopping trip,
think again. The Mumbai police have busted a hitech credit card fraud which
they believe is the crime of the future.

Four gadget-savvy youngsters from Andheri, two of them software engineers, got
together to earn a quick buck and ended up ripping off over Rs 3 lakh of
citizens' money. The foursome were arrested by the Juhu police on Tuesday.
Interestingly, one of the boys was all set to leave for the
United State
s for a job in a wellplaced computer firm ..

According to the police, the mastermind of the gang is 19-year-old Leo Paul. A
second-year engineering student at a Bandra college, Paul had read about a
magnetic card-reading device which could store data once you swipe a card
through it. Data from at least 12 such cards could be stored at a time. Paul
realised that if credit cards were swiped though the machine, the personal data
of a customer stored on it could be accessed. He then teamed with Akash Kamble,
a 19-year-old Lokhandwala resident, and ordered the card-reader from
USA , using the Internet, since it's not
available in India
.

"The boys befriended a waiter at Kings International hotel at Juhu to take
their plan ahead. Every time someone ate a meal in the hotel and paid by credit
card, the waiter would discreetly swipe it through the magnetic card-reader,
which is no more than 6-inches long and can be stored in the pocket,'' said
investigating officer

Once the waiter was done, he would hand over the device to Paul who would
download the data from the cards on to Kamble's personal computer. The duo
would then feed the data into blank cards, available in the grey market. The
cards were now ready to be used in

Shopping malls and theatres, or to withdraw money from an ATM.

Senior inspector Pradeep Shinde said that the boys forged information from more
than 22 cards in this manner. The fraud came to light after officials from HSBC
bank complained to the police. The cops quizzed customers whose cards had been
duplicated and discovered they had all visited Hotel Kings International and
paid by credit card. Investigators then caught the waiter who led them to the
four youngsters. Paul, Kamble and the two other collegians identified as Manoj
Chauhan (24) and Mahesh Valani (20), have been remanded to police custody.

NEW-AGE CRIME

A portable magnetic cardreader can store data from around a dozen cards tha t
have been swiped through it; made in China, the device was bought on the net
for Rs 18,000.

The card-reader is connected to a computer and the entire data is transferred
there.

The data is then stored in blank cards available in the grey market..

These duplicate cards can now be used to buy a fortune and also withdraw money
from ATMs.

Steve Jobs

Steven Paul Jobs (1955-) and Apple Computer are names that have long gone together.

Born in the United States to an unknown Egyptian-Arab father, Jobs was adopted soon after birth. After graduating high school, he enrolled in Reed College, dropping out after one semester.

Michael Dell

Michael Saul Dell (1965- ) joined the University of Texas at Austin with the intention of becoming a physician. While studying there, he started a computer company in his dormitory, calling it PC's Limited. By the time he turned 19, it had notched up enough success to prompt Dell to dropout.

In 1987, PC's Limited changed its name to Dell Computer Corporation. By 2003, Dell, Inc. was the world's most profitable PC manufacturer.

Dell has won more than his fair share of accolades, including Man of the Year from PC Magazine and EM>CEO of the Year from Financial World . Forbes, in 2005, lists him as the 18th richest in the world with a net worth of around $1600 Crores. Not bad for just another dropout.

1) In 1978, his tamil movie "Sivappu Rojakal" got released. He played the role of a Psychopath killer (femicide).One year later, a guy called Psycho Raman was caught for brutally murdering people especially women.

2) In 1988, kamal played the role of a unemployed youth in the movie "Sathya". In 89-90's our country faced lot of problems due to unemployment.

3) In 1992, his blockbuster movie "Devar Magan" got released. Its a village based subject. There will be some scenes portraying communal clashes. Exactly a year later in 1993, there were many communal clashes in southern districts.

4) We all know in 1996 many people in our country was cheated by finance companies. Our Kamal Hasan has clearly depicted this in his movie "mahanadhi" which got released in 1994 itself.

5) In "heyram"(2000), there are some scenes relating to Hindu Muslim clashes . We all know 2 years later, godhra(Gujarat riots) incident happened.

6) He used a word called 'tsunami' in his movie "Anbesivam"(2003).The word 'tsunami' was not known to many people before. In 2004, 'tsunami' stuck the east coast of our country and many people lost their lives.

7) In his latest movie "Vettaiyadu Vilayadu "(2006) there are two characters called ila&amudhan who played the roles of psychopath killers. After 3 months of release of the movie, the noida serial killing came to light (moninder/sathish)

Sudarshan Reddy has theoretically proven the existence of a sub-atomic particle, which can travel at speed greater than that of light, thereby challenging one of the fundamental postulates of the 'Theory of Relativity'.

In his recent research paper submitted to the Institute of Advanced Physics (IAP) at Trieste (Italy), Sudarshan has proved the existence of a class of sub-atomic particles called leptons', which can travel faster than light.
The international physics community is shocked by this discovery.

Dr.Massimo Martelli, President of the IAP has this to say about the paper submitted by Sudarshan. 'After long, careful and critical
